The ARNOULTS from GERBEVILLER till 1632

Hereafter we will study the name ARNOULT with the help of our cousin Claude GEWISS. This name was widespread in the area on the last century. Archives of Beaupré (Arch. It may be the same Jehan discovered at the date of 1552 by our family genealogist Richard ARNOLD who was the first to find the birth certificate of Claude ARNOLD in the old archives of the... The other families ARNOLD from ALSACE

Several families from Alsace-Lorraine are also called ARNOLD and are not of our family. We have not any common ancestor. In the valley of SAINT AMARIN several families called ARNOLD are living since the 16th century in WILLER- SUR-THUR with branches in GEISHOUSE and in GOLDBACH-ALTENBACH and they have a common ancestor, but our family arrived in the HIGH VALLEY OF THE THUR (KRUTH) during the middle of the 17th century (1659) and the name which was ARNOULX in LORRAINE became in ALSACE ARNOLDT then ARNOLD. This name was... [Lire la suite]

OUR ANCESTORS FIRST NAMES

SAINTS WILL BE AN EXAMPLE OF VIRTUE TO ALL BAPTIZED PEOPLE WHO WILL LOOK UP TO AND SAINTS WILL BE INTERCESSORS BESIDE GOD… Our name is old…for many centuries, but our first name also has a STORY… The passing down of a first name is always an astonishment for a genealogist! The attachment to a Patron Saint or to a first name « well suited » and recalling some glorious ancestors has always guided the choice of our ancestors as for us today! And they had yet a very important choice between all the Saints... [Lire la suite]

THE BEAUTIFUL VALLEY OF SAINT-AMARIN

From the text of Paul STINZI "La vallée de St Amarin au cours des siècles" A Roman way forking off the one which is along the bottom of Vosges near of Cernay, was crossing the valley of SAINT AMARIN. In front of the textile mill of MALMERSPACH, it left the bottom of the valley and cut into the rocky promontory above the present tracks (roman way which was discovered in 1910 by Désiré Lutz and restored by secondary school students of Thann in 1966) We can see two parallel ruts dug into the rock. This place... [Lire la suite]
